When choosing Spanish classes for a child, look beyond the name of the program. The age group, approach, location and lesson arrangements all affect how a class fits your family.
How does the program fit their age?
Ask what a typical lesson might involve. Activities for a preschooler should look different from those for a teenager. Songs and movement may suit young children; older learners may want conversations and topics connected to their interests.
How is their starting point discussed?
Tell the provider whether your child has taken classes, hears Spanish at home or is beginning from scratch. Ask how this information informs the teaching approach.
Where will the class take place?
Consider the travel involved, the learning space and your child’s comfort. For at-home classes, ask which neighbourhoods are served and what space or materials may be needed.
What should you know about rates and arrangements?
Confirm the current rate, what is included, available times and any terms that apply before committing. If introductory classes are offered, ask about their cost and format instead of assuming they are free.
How can parents stay involved?
Ask how you can share questions and learn what your child is working on. You can also ask for manageable ways to revisit Spanish between classes.
